Breathe Freely Again

Septoplasty At the Rhinoplasty Clinic in New Jersey

Free, easy, unobstructed breathing is essential to your health and well-being. Conversely, physical impediments to relaxed breathing can greatly decrease your quality of life. The nasal condition known as a deviated septum can interfere with normal breathing, sometimes causing shortness of breath, physical stress, discomfort, and even emotional anxiety.

A deviated septum can frequently be corrected by a surgical procedure known as septoplasty. Dr. Christopher Godek is one of America’s most highly trained and accomplished board-certified plastic surgeons. Dr. Godek is particularly experienced in and passionate about nose surgery. He invites you to take a “deep breath” and schedule a consultation to learn about the often life-changing benefits of septoplasty. You are invited to begin that conversation here at www.rhinoplastysurgerynj.com or by phone. Please call our New Jersey office at (732) 281-1988 or our Wall Township facility at (732) 375-0202.

Don’t Deviate From Normal Breathing!

What is a Septoplasty?

The septum is the internal nasal wall of cartilage and bone that separates your nostrils into two chambers. If the septum becomes “deviated” from its straight and balanced position because of genetics or injury, it can interfere with normal breathing and increase the risk of sinus infections. Septoplasty is surgery to fix a crooked or “deviated” septum. The surgery is considered “functional rhinoplasty,” meaning it is performed to increase and enhance breathing function. Septoplasty does not change the shape of your nose and is not a cosmetic or aesthetic procedure.

What are the benefits of a Septoplasty?

Septoplasty treats breathing problems caused by a deviated septum or nasal polyps. The procedure allows your sinuses to drain better, which can result in fewer sinus infections. Additionally, with a Septoplasty New Jersey patients that visit us can often experience reduced or eliminated snoring, leading to improved sleep quality. Septoplasty may be a good treatment option if you have frequent difficulty breathing through your nose. In some chronic cases, septoplasty has effectively reduced the frequency and severity of nosebleeds.

Let’s Talk It Over.

Your Septoplasty Consultation

Dr. Godek will begin your consultation by confirming whether you have a deviated septum, using lights and instruments designed to examine the inside of your nose. If it is his recommendation that you consider Septoplasty –and you wish to learn more about the procedure and its benefits–Dr. Godek will be happy to fully answer all of your questions. Excellent medical care and treatment begin with full and open communication between patient and doctor. Dr. Godek has great listening skills because he regards the practice of medicine as a call to human service.

Here’s How It Works.

Your Septoplasty Procedure

If you elect to go forward with septoplasty for a period of time before and after your surgery, as directed by Dr. Godek, you’ll need to hold off on any medications or supplements that can interfere with normal blood clotting. The goal of septoplasty is to reposition your septum to the middle of your nose. To accomplish this, Dr. Godek may need to cut and remove parts of your septum before placing them back in their proper positions. The procedure takes between approximately 90 minutes under light anesthesia.
